Starting Tuesday, Illinois residents can submit their designs for a new state flag. Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias announced that ten designs will be chosen for consideration.
After a period of public feedback, the state legislature will decide whether to adopt a new flag or keep the current one.
To submit your design, visit www.ilsos.gov or mail it to the Illinois Flag Commission at Howlett Building, Room 476, 501 S. Second St., Springfield, IL 62756.
In December 2023, Minnesota unveiled its new flag using a similar process. Michigan and Maine are also considering changes to their state flags, according to a news release from Giannoulias’ office.
